Gabriela Luna

Born in Mexico City, this accomplished percussionist's experience includes a wide range of genres, such as traditional Mexican music, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Peruvian rhythms. She has toured throughout Mexico performing with renowned artists in cultural forums and various festivals including the Festival Internacional Cervantino for several years. From 1989 to 1996 she was a recording artist for Metztli Studio. In '94 and '96 she closed the Latina Series at Mexicarte Museum and Women and their Work in Austin, TX.

Now living in Chicago Gabriela currently performs with the new Latira Latin Orquestra, directed by bass player Ben Willis, SHE, an all female jazz band, and her new project HOY SON, an acoustic quartet playing Mexican Contemporary Songs and Traditional music with contemporary arrangements. She is also part of the Orquestra of the Americas, The Primal Connection and Sones de Mexico Ensamble Chicago. As an educator she leads bilingual music workshops for children with Northeastern Illinois University's hACE Project and Pros Arts Studio in Pilsen. Recently she was invited to join the Viva la Musica Clįsica program with the Mexican Institute of Culture and Education where she will develop Music & Movement classes for young children.
