Steve ReidSteve Reid, world-renowned percussionist and producer, is a household name to most music enthusiasts. He has played on over 700 recordings, produced several gold records worldwide, and was named Jazziz Magazine percussionist of the year 1997, 1995, and 1993. Steve has toured the world extensively as a member of Supertramp and as a founding member of the Rippingtons, one of the most successful jazz groups of the decade, with five "number one" billboard sales awards. Steve won a Grammy for his work with the legendary Miles Davis whom quoted Steve as one of the most imaginative percussionists of the Decade. Steve released his first solo record, "Bamboo Forest" in 1994 and saw a solid ten weeks on the charts. In 1996, Steve released "Watersign" which produced strong international sales and air play. In 1997 he released "Mysteries" and launched a 70-city tour throughout the US. In January of 1999, Steve formally announced that he and band co-partner in the Rippingtons, Jeff Kashiwa, would leave the Rippingtons permanently to pursue touring Bamboo Forest full-time. In February of 1999 Steve celebrated the signing of a new record deal with Domo Jazz of Virgin Records distribution and released a new CD entitled "Passion In Paradise", which is moving its way up the Gavin and R&R charts. In April Steve and the boys launched a 90-city tour and will be touring into the millennium. Steve Reid's Bamboo forest has been a highlight to Jazz festivals around the country. Steve's multimedia credits include The Rolling Stones "Voodoo Lounge" CD ROM where Steve was the head sound designer. Steve is also in production on his own CD ROM titled "Rhythm Child" which teaches kids how to play and make percussion instruments. Steve also released "The Definitive Percussion Sampler" a library of ethnic world percussion sounds on CD ROM. All these projects are under the umbrella of The Sonic Jungle, a full music and multi-media recording production facility that Reid launched in Los Angeles. When not playing and producing, Steve loves to dive, windsurf, and sail. Steve is an avid collector of rare and unusual percussion instruments from around the world. With over 600 instruments in his collection, Steve is always looking for new concepts to integrate ethnic world sounds into popular music. May the Spirit of music fill your life. |
