TorQ
PERCUSSION QUARTET
TorQ was formed in 2004 as an amalgamation of percussion graduates from the University of Toronto. Richard Burrows, Jamie Drake, Christa Mercey and Daniel Morphy each bring an exciting element of experience to the ensemble. This contemporary chamber ensemble has performed at festivals, concert halls and educational institutions throughout Canada and Europe. TorQ's vision is to create a heightened awareness of the energy of percussion and the endless benefits of music education.
In 2005, TorQ competed at the International Percussion Ensemble Competition in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. TorQ is continually looking to expand the percussion ensemble library with new commissions. They have recently collaborated with Canadian composers Ryan Trew and Jason Stanford. TorQ was recently commissioned to write and record music for the new aerial/acrobat sensation, Suspended Animation.
